Riversport Rapids has invested over $1 million in a new water filtration system.

With summer right around the corner, everyone will notice a big difference in the water.

"We have beautiful water to start out our season and it is going to get even better. It's really a game changer for us," said Mike Knopp, the executive director of Riversport.

The brand new $1.4 million water filtration system has completely transformed the look of the water at the Rapids.

"We were able to get custom-made, very enhanced filtration system built over the winter," Knopp said.

Knopp said in the past, the water was a brownish color. He said the water has always been clean but looked dirty due to something Oklahoma is known for.

"We have had some challenges just with our Oklahoma red dirt. The dust that comes in and it's like chocolate milk. It mixes with when we turn the pumps on. It has made it look a little turbid at times," Knopp said.

The custom-made filtration system now takes care of the pesky Oklahoma dust. It is able to pick out and filter even the smallest particles in a large body of water.

"It's complicated because we have an 8.5-million-gallon pool. It's a massive pool," Knopp said.

The clear water is here just in time. The Riversport will be open seven days a week for guests to enjoy starting Memorial Day weekend.

Also, they are getting ready to welcome guests from all over the world with the freshwater. The Riversport will host the 2026 International Canoe Federation World Championships.

"This is a venue that is getting international attention. We have been ranked as one of the top white-water parks in the entire world. We want to make sure that we are looking our best at all times," Knopp said.

The new filtration system was paid for with MAPS 3 money, the final phase of the MAPS 3 initiative at Riversport.
