If there's anything that can be done to make our mail carrier's lives easier, we should certainly try to do that.

You might open your mailbox one day and notice a nice smell. If you're wondering why your mailbox suddenly smells like a clean pillow. Look around in the mailbox, and you might find a dryer sheet inside.

Why?

I'm sure you're wondering, "Why on Earth did my mailman put this in my mailbox?" There's actually a very good reason for this.

Spiders, ants, and all kinds of flying insects can get into your mailbox; it is outside, after all.

Dryer sheets actually deter wasps and yellow jackets, according to Taste of Home. Your mail carrier may have put the dryer sheet in your mailbox in order to prevent getting stung.

According to the source, eucalyptus, cloves, and citronella are the main ingredients in a lot of wasp repellants; it makes sense that dryer sheets, having such a strong smell, would be a great alternative to a spray.

Helping Hands

Help your mailman out and leave a dryer sheet in the mailbox so he or she doesn't get stung. Don't forget to change it out every now and then!
